The latest in our food-themed #AutisticLifeHacks for #WeEatWell19 is all about what happens before preparing food – planning what to eat and buying it! Food shopping can be a challenge at the best of times, but this hack can make it less of a chore.
Cheryl Ferris-Stewart, a project worker for the Leeds LGBTQ+ Health Inclusion Project (co-led by Advonet, the charity that Leeds Autism AIM is part of), covers both meal planning and shopping in this hack:
“I have a food planner on my fridge with sections for each day of the week. Then, I can write what I’m going to have at breakfast/lunch/dinner/ and for snacks.
“This is great, so I can plan my food shop. I go to the nearest food retailer with a list, in order of how I go round the shop and tick off each item as I go.”
