Autism-specific support

In addition to the services offered by Leeds Autism AIM, there are some other groups who can provide autism-specific support. We list below some of the services/groups who can provide support workers, employment support and/or peer support if needed.

Specialist Autism Services

A large autism charity with bases around West Yorkshire, Specialist Autism Services offer the following:

  • Social skills workshops
  • Employment programmes
  • Community outreach
  • Autism-specific counselling
  • Daily and weekly workshops

Leeds Autism Services

Leeds Autism Services (LAS) provides residential, day care and outreach services for adults across the autism spectrum in Leeds. They have bases in Armley, Hunslet and Chapel Allerton.

Among the services offered by LAS are support workers, supported accommodation and day care at one of their bases. They do require funding in place to access their services, but it’s easy to make a referral by getting in touch with them.

Leeds Asperger Adults

Leeds Asperger Adults (LAA) are a support group run by and for autistic adults and their parents, carers and partners. They have meetings on the first Tuesday of every month at the Leeds Civic Hall between 6.45pm and 8.30pm. LAA also organise regular trips out and social events.

On top of that, the group can also talk to you over the phone, by email or through their Facebook page. Peer support is their main service.

There are a number of services for Leeds that aren’t autism-specific, but they do offer some services for autistic adults.

  • Mentoring for anyone who needs a helping hand for achieving life goals
  • Information and signposting towards relevant services
  • Peer support at the drop-ins
  • Advice on employment, education and benefits/finance
